We were excited to get to Lyon, for the past month and a half we had been bouncing through Germany, the Baltic countries, Germany again and then the Czech Republic. Lyon was a very wonderful break from short stays and speed traveling. We were excited to spend 10 days in Lyon, completely uninterrupted! For the most part, we ate muesli with diced fruit in our hotel room for breakfast and made a simple hotel room dinner of buckwheat noodles or couscous topped with tons of chopped veggies, beans and coconut milk with curry powder and red pepper puree- healthy and delicious.

However- I had a wonderful duck confit at Canut et Les Gones- an adorable and very affordable bouchon near our hotel.

We met up with fellow food blogger Anne-Liesse of bulletblog.com to discuss all things Lyon (and especially all things FOOD in Lyon) at Chez Thomas- a cute, bustling restaurant with no menu, just a handwritten sign telling us what they offered that day.

Of course, since it was black truffle season, we couldn’t leave Lyon without trying a few- Nick had some on his lunch at Chez Thomas.

My favorite food adventure was visiting Les Halles- an indoor market specializing in Lyon specialties- they had cheese, salads, vegetables, sausage, fresh fish, quenelles, wines, pralines, sausages and more!

It was an overwhelming sensory experience, but I couldn’t get enough! We purchased some Saucisson brioché and a praline tart for a hike up to visit the Roman amphitheater. Both were excellent and great fuel for the huge hill we climbed.

To learn more about the Lyon food culture, we took a class a Délicieusement Vôtre. Check out details of the class HERE. We enjoyed monkifish, butternut squash souffles, chicken rillettes and learned the secrets to a good broth and fluffy raspberry mousse! It was a delicious 10 days!

Hi Katy,
Loving your posts and your recipe shares to my pinterest board https://www.pinterest.com/plantmad/culinary-delights/ but wondering how the hell are you guys guys surviving?
The images on this particular post give the impression of a not so cheap restaurant
Curious?
Thanks Ena! Lyon was quite expensive, so we only went out to eat at lunch when everyone had a lunch special, which helped keep the cost down, and we ate a lot of hotel room noodle bowls and sandwiches. We have since moved on to Southeast Asia where meal costs average less than $3 a person- a welcome change!
